Plan B

1.    List all of those digital technologies;
2.    Identify all of the ways in which they might break; and,
3.    Identify all of the methods you can employ to prevent, avoid and recover from problems with those digital technologies.
Digital technologies
Ways it might break
How to prevent/ avoid/ recover the problem
Smart phone(camera app)
Camera app can’t be open
Use digital camera
Digital tablet
Low battery
Ensure the battery is full before using it
Printer
Not connected to the laptop that children are working on
Use pen drive transfer folders from laptop to the computer connected to a printer
Video
It may not play although connected to the internet
Download the video first or load it first before the lesson
School’s wireless internet connection
Not connected to the device used
Bring my own portable modem and connect using a cable
Reading this makes me realize that it does make sense to think ahead of Plan B. I do realize that technology may break down and the funny thing is at times that we are in need is the time that it breaks down.

I do not think I have ever planned for Plan B. Usually my Plan B appears spontaneously. I don't think ahead of "what if" the digital tool breaks down. A lesson with students should be delivered as smooth as possible. Working with students, there are other challenges that may not make a lesson go as smooth as how us teachers want it to be. However, there are ways to minimize these risks. For instance with digital technologies, teachers can assume or predict what could break down during a lesson. Hence, planning for Plan B is a great idea! It can help teachers remain calm and still be prepared when a break down happens.

As Ms. Milne mentions in her blog post, seeking help from other people such as the ICT department is also one of the way for Plan B. This clearly shows that thinking ahead of the possible break downs can cut off the amount of time wasted during a lesson. Mr. Marcinek mentioned that the Plan B should also engage students in active learning.

Next on, I will be thinking of Plan B ahead of my lessons. Its a better way for me to be confident when conducting lessons with the students.
