I've ended my EDC3100 professional experience! It was a 15 days being at the site and I met new people. The experience was amazing! I am really thankful for my site coordinator and my mentor for being supportive of me.
Although the school do not have digital technologies particularly for the students, my mentor has allowed me to use my personal digital tools with the students. Both my mentor and site coordinator was excited to see me integrate ICT into lessons. The school do not practice integrating ICT into lessons however they supported me to do so for my professional experience.
I observed my mentor teaching, took over the class when my mentor had an emergency and even proceed a lesson plan prepared by my mentor.
For the final week (week 3 of professional experience), there are various things that I had to be aware of. One of it is to get my mentor to mark me a Pass/ Fail via InPlace using her account. It was a hassle as my mentor had some issues with her account. I was really nervous when things did not go smoothly as I had planned in my mind. However, we managed to pull it of.
This table was the one that helped me to keep track of the feedbacks that I need to get.
I feel some amount of relieve that professional is over. I also do feel happy to read Elise's post on finishing her professional experience!
A little bit more to go till the due date!

Week 8- Digital citizenship's second blog post
Referring to this page, this is my second post in regard to safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT. Re-reading my first blog post on this topic, I shall answer some questions as required here.
Firstly, there are no written policies regarding ICT at my PE site. The mentor just verbally told me the do's and don't of using ICT amongst the students.
The ICT skills that the learners need to have are such as unlocking the digital tool's pass code, opening app, switching on and off the computer and using the keyboard.
It'd be good if changes are made before the PE as there are room for adjustment.

Week 10- Modelling grade
The due date is near! As much as I am trying to finish my assignments well, I am also modelling my grade and want to see how much left to pass EDC3100. Below is the model of my likely result for EDC3100.
I would get an A if I scored 40 marks for assignment 3.
I would get C grade if I scored 20 marks for assignment 3.
I would get F grade if I scored 0 mark for assignment 3. I will do my assignment well to pass this course.
Based on my capability and my marks so far, I may get B grade for this course. I want this to happen, god willing.
Assignment 3 consists part A, part B, part C and part D. Below are my assumption of marks for those parts.
Part A: 5 marks
Part B: 7 marks
Part C: 5 marks
Part D: 12 marks
According to the above, I am assuming I would get 29/40 for assignment 3, god willing. I shall now ensure I cover all learning paths. Got to complete them and see all the boxes are ticked!

Week 10- Reflection
What is the importance of reflection? Yes! I groaned when I see a task asking me to reflect. Reading this, I think reflections on a lesson helps teachers to improve the quality of a lesson.
As a teacher myself, I don't do thorough reflection after my lessons (this as in when I am not during a Professional Experience). Just thoughts in my mind either the lesson was delivered smoothly or was not. Tamdubois had a similar experience like mine which she was reflecting little things on her own.
When I am doing the student's report, noting down their inability to grasp a concept, I would just think on how can I make that student understand. I still don't reflect on the lesson I conducted.
The benefits of reflective teaching is that we get to think about the student's input. By answering some questions during reflection, we (teachers) will be able to see if the lesson objective is met. The lesson objective can also be a guide when doing reflection on a lesson.
Other than that, reflecting after a lesson helps teachers to identify the unwanted things that were supposed to happen. For instance, having not enough material can take up the student's waiting time which could lead to restlessness amongst them. Restlessness amongst them may be the cause of their short attention span.
As Rhalmi (2011) stated that reflective teaching enable teachers to discover other ways of teaching and trying it out with their students. This is a great opportunity for teacher's development.
The down side of reflective teaching would be for the teachers. It takes time to reflect on lesson that we teach. Not forgetting the amount of works that we need to check!
I would like to practice making reflections after my lessons. I think it can guide me to become more explorative in my teaching skills.

IWB and Literature
This page initiated me to analyse a literature titled Honeymoon with IWBs: A qualitative insight in primary students' views on instruction with interactive whiteboard.
Referring to table 1, the thing about IWB that students amongst the 4th graders to the 8th graders like the most is its practicality and economically use. It is easier for the students to use the IWB as they are more comfortable using a pen that they don't have to use pressure to write. Using a chalk needs them to grip tightly to be able to write. Using the pen on an IWB will also avoid them from getting dust onto them when writing on a whiteboard. According to the 8th graders, the IWB enable them to reverse pages back to the page that they need to refer to.
Referring to table 2, the thing students like the least is the technical issues that occurs when they are using IWB. It distracts them as they were focusing in the lesson. Issues such as power cut, viruses and the unsmooth media played on IWB.
On table 3, it is said that the instructions on IWB enhanced student's learning because of its interesting display and presentation. Students from 6th to 8th grade said the colours on screen captured their attention compared to the traditional whiteboard. Media presentation such as the video enable students to grasp understanding of abstract concepts.
IWB can most effectively be use as a supplement to student's learning. Ms. Milne listed down some techniques of IWB.
For my professional experience, the context uses Montessori Approach for teaching and learning. This way, IWB will definitely come second as a supplementary to a lesson.

CLEM and IWB
IWB is an interactive whiteboard which is used in classes for teacher's teaching and student's learning. IWB is commonly seen in an Australian classroom however is very rare to see IWB in my country.
I have once observed a teacher working with an IWB in a school I used to work in. At that time, I was the teacher's assistant for the 6 years old class. I did not see how she operated it but I saw how students was interactively taking part during the lesson.
Relating to CLEM's explanation of model, there are various software's that can be used via the IWB. The choice of software matters to student's learning.
Maher, Phelps, Urane, Lee (2012) said that IWB with a software is like a traditional whiteboard but it comes with other abilities to save, edit and record. These allows active participation from students to produce their work and widely share it with the others.
When I get the chance to use an IWB I will ensure that I choose the right software that will benefit students the most.

Digital technologies and CLEM
There are various digital technologies that can be used for teaching and learning. The digital technologies each functions differently and I may not know how to use them all.
However, CLEM the acronym can help teachers to know how to use digital technologies to amplify and transform student's learning.
CLEM is the acronym for community, literature, examples and model.
Community
People coming together sharing their experience using a particular digital technology. We can seek help and ask other people to help us operate a tool.
Literature
There are research done about certain digital technologies on its usage. Academic literature are done and shared so other people can refer to. Their research paper can be a source of us teachers to know pros and cons.
Examples
I myself sometimes operate a digital technology via examples. Either I observe other people operating it or I go online to read steps on how to operate it. I also like to go on YouTube to learn how to work out a digital technology that I am not familiar with.
Model
Get to know the digital technology via the model itself. Go through the manual and learn to operate the technology.
Above are my write up on what I understand of CLEM.

Digital citizenship- usage of technology
How much technology do we need? How long is enough for young children engaging with digital technologies? I was reading an article revealing about the amount of screen time children are having. It does not sound too good to know how much time children spend on screen. Various issues can happen to the children and if it gets worst, it may affect their future.
I witnessed myself that there are children are having a little too much of screen time. They can go on and on playing games and watching videos for hours if not stopped by the parents. To some extend, there are children who gets really upset when they are advised to stop playing their digital tablets. The habit of over using technology makes them loose control of their emotions.
I strongly believe that providing technology with limits is the best for our children. Stopping them altogether from using technology to protect them from harm may just be otherwise. It might lower their self-confidence when socializing with friends who uses technology.
This is what we would like for every digital technology users. I believe that to infuse these characteristics, we need to start early with our young ones. Limiting children's screen time is a basis way of teaching them a sense of self-control with technology. When they are used to this discipline, we can then in calculate responsibility when using digital technology. Jary (2016) stated that more screen time creates more issues and will effect children's development.
To those children I can be control of, I will definitely control their screen time. I will also like to expose them to become a good digital citizen.

Digital citizenship- a positive story
I read through the scary stories and it was horrifying to know. I shall just share with you the positive things that happened in a digital world. Martha's story shed light of how a digital world can cause a big impact for a young person. She gave her opinion about the school's food that she usually have in her blog post. To everyone's surprise (and I'm sure to herself too), her post has created a massive awareness.
I myself have never created awareness in the digital world but I am aware of an issue rising in my country through his facebook page. He does a lot of charity work and conduct events to create awareness. Latest, people have been writing to him via facebook direct messages about sexual abuse. He has helped a lot of people to further their investigations. I myself have come to realize of the high number of cases occurred. I agree that digital world helps create awareness which can further a positive cause such as helping people in need.
I believe that the digital world work wonders. Despite the scary things people do online, a lot of people are using ICT for the right reasons. Scamming is undoubtedly happening such as the cat fished case about Mr. Alec Couros.
Reporter, Ms. Soteriou highlighted the various things that went viral. Reading through their viral stories, it does show the impacts of things that occur via the digital world.
I'd like to take and use the digital world positively. Some of the things I do offline to help people for the better, I would like to do the same in this digital world.

Digital citizenship- I belong here too
I am a citizen of Malaysia. I also own a citizenship of the digital world. Well, you are too! A user of ICT should have proper ethics, practice safe participation in the digital world and be responsible of their actions. We should never be ignorant of our acts just because it is in an online world.
I took the quiz about bullying and I confidently answered them all. I got 3 answers correct out of the 4 questions. Although cyber bullying amongst secondary school students are not at a dangerous rate, it can be discreetly threatening.
I also agree with this article that a bully victim should not blame themselves for becoming one. It takes support from family and friends to not feel bad about becoming a bully victim.
This Cyber Smart Quiz is super cool! The quiz is intentionally for primary level students but I myself found it attractive too! I already shared it with my friends and families so they can have an idea how to teach their young ones about cyber safety.
The quiz gives a good idea on what to teach about cyber safety and enables people to learn on what is safe, what is not, what is right and what is wrong.
The two quizzes that I took gave me an insight of the relation of bullying in a digital world. I find it really important for all ICT users to know about the proper ethics. The quiz gave me a perspective that young people and us adults should practice healthy ethics online.
In my beloved country, there are just plenty of cases and people exposing stories of their children becoming victims of online grooming. Due to that and many other reasons, being cyber smart is a must for everyone!
I believe being aware of healthy ways to operate ICT can help a person develop understanding about the pros and cons of a digital world. We adults may not be able to stop young people's curiosity but the understanding of a digital world can work as a reminder to them in case things happen.
When young people understands the good way to operate ICT, it may be easier to discuss with them or remind them about becoming a digital citizen.
I will share with my students, friends and families that becoming a digital citizen is altogether about having good ethics, being responsible
of
our acts and monitor our safety and to grant safety to other digital citizens.

Plan B
1. List
all of those digital technologies;
2. Identify
all of the ways in which they might break; and,
3. Identify
all of the methods you can employ to prevent, avoid and recover from problems
with those digital technologies.

I do not think I have ever planned for Plan B. Usually my Plan B appears spontaneously. I don't think ahead of "what if" the digital tool breaks down. A lesson with students should be delivered as smooth as possible. Working with students, there are other challenges that may not make a lesson go as smooth as how us teachers want it to be. However, there are ways to minimize these risks. For instance with digital technologies, teachers can assume or predict what could break down during a lesson. Hence, planning for Plan B is a great idea! It can help teachers remain calm and still be prepared when a break down happens.
As Ms. Milne mentions in her blog post, seeking help from other people such as the ICT department is also one of the way for Plan B. This clearly shows that thinking ahead of the possible break downs can cut off the amount of time wasted during a lesson. Mr. Marcinek mentioned that the Plan B should also engage students in active learning.
Next on, I will be thinking of Plan B ahead of my lessons. Its a better way for me to be confident when conducting lessons with the students.

Becoming a positive person
People are curious on how can a person think and act positively?
I figured this out for myself.
Becoming a positive person is not magic. I don't just snap my finger and turn myself into a positive person.
Honestly, it takes a conscious mind to think and act positively. With practice to be conscious when our mind is in a negative state, we will (god willing) subconsciously be conscious to switch our mind towards positivity.
Positive mind leads to positive actions.
